“More interesting for Soth was Carmen’s lack of photographic preconceptions. “Kids aren’t drowning in cliches. They think it’s just as interesting to shoot rubbish on a beach as a sunset, or a velvet rope rather than the museum behind it,” he says. “She has a freewheeling way of framing. And by photographing anything she saw, she was completely democratic. My head is filled with nuanced cliches – I might subconsciously be influenced by William Egglestone – but she doesn’t have that framework. Of course, as a professional, you can’t go back to a time when you had none, but you can try. Myself, I long for that quality again.””

I often found myself sitting by the window in the corner, watching the world outside as it goes from light to dark, trying to figure out what to do next in life. Will it be better tomorrow?

As the sun sets, I watch the shadow moving and getting longer before disappearing into the night. People going by, minding their own thoughts and emotions. And here I am sitting alone waiting for the day to end. Will they be better tomorrow?

The lights are up cueing people to go home. Can you see the emptiness? Can you hear the silence of the night?

On my way home, I can almost hear the Depeche Mode sings right into my ears.

I’m waiting for the night to fall.
I know that it will save us all.
When everything’s dark.
Keeps us from the stark reality.

One morning, I walk around the neighbourhood and found this red wooden rocking horse outside the window.

It looks old, worn-out, and abandoned. Yet, it sits there with pride and wisdom although seems a bit out-of-place. It symbolizes simplicity, perseverance, and durability. It has so much stories waiting to be told to future generations. I think to myself “What a lovely toy. The child who owns it must be proud and happy.”
